Redundancy guide · Great Britain
Redundancy age bands explained
The statutory formula weights each counted year by age. A full year is worth half a week below age 22, one week from age 22 through 40, or one and a half weeks from age 41.
A birthday near your leaving date
Count back one full year at a time. For example, if you turned 41 on the relevant date, the latest full year began when you were 40 and attracts one week. If you had already turned 41 when that year began, it attracts one and a half weeks.
Use the statutory redundancy pay calculator to estimate the statutory component for the 2026/27 rate period in England, Scotland or Wales.
