UK Work Pay

Redundancy guide · Great Britain

What is the maximum statutory redundancy pay in 2026/27?

£22,530 maximum · £751 weekly pay cap

These figures apply in England, Scotland and Wales for the rate period from 6 April 2026 to 5 April 2027. Check the rate for your relevant redundancy date if it falls outside that period. Northern Ireland has separate redundancy pay guidance.

How the statutory calculation works

  1. Weekly pay. Use your eligible gross weekly pay, normally your average weekly earnings over the 12 weeks before you received notice, up to £751.
  2. Service. Count backwards from the relevant date. If you have 25 full years of continuous service, the calculation uses the most recent 20 full years.
  3. Age bands. Each counted full year gives half a week’s pay if you were under 22 at the start of that year, one week if you were 22 to 40, or one and a half weeks if you were 41 or older.

When you reach £22,530

You can reach the maximum if you qualify for statutory redundancy pay, have at least 20 full years of continuous service, were at least 41 at the start of each of the 20 counted years and have eligible weekly pay of at least £751. The calculation is 20 × 1.5 × £751 = £22,530.

For comparison, if all 20 years qualify for the 1.5 multiplier and your eligible weekly pay is £600, the result is 30 × £600 = £18,000.

Enhanced redundancy pay

An employer’s contract or redundancy scheme may provide a higher payment or use a different formula. Ask for the scheme rules and an itemised breakdown showing whether the enhanced figure includes the statutory amount. See statutory vs enhanced redundancy pay.
